Why is taking enough fluids important for our health?

Dieticians of Canada, in their document on staying hydrated, say fluids help to:

• Keep blood pressure normal.
• Control body temperature.
• Protect and cushion joints and organs.
• Move nutrients and waste through the body.
• Lower the risk of dehydration and heat stroke.

They also say that consistent fluid intake is essential for mature adults as dehydration contributes to constipation. It might also result in falls due to dizziness, low blood pressure or fainting.
